MAPS & NETWORKS - SHOOTS

Image
Art work 1 FIRST SHOOT Our first shoot was with Nina, who is from the Philippines. We used a white backdrop as we thought that it would be easier to see a projection over. Both Dani and I chose a piece of art from the Philippines, which we then painted each on half her face using makeup and face paint.  The problems with this shoot were: the white background didn't work as we'd hope, both of us doing makeup at the same time wasn't a good idea, the colours were too dull, not enough research. Art work 2 I think the most impressive part of this shoot was the fact that I was able to set up the camera by myself; Considering I had never used a camera until last year, I confidently got the right settings we needed.  Although the shoot wasn't a complete success, it helped us to realise what we wanted and needed to do in order to improve. We researched properly this time, before we undertook our next experimental shoot and gathered a collection of artwo

PRO TOOLS PROJECT - Yr 2

The image above is the passage that I had chosen for my Pro Tools audio project. It's the first few verses from the song 'Cut' by Plumb. The song was released in 2008 and featured in the CW TV show 'The Vampire Diaries'.  The songs meaning is all about self harm (cutting). In an interview, Plumb said that the song was "inspired by a girl involved in self-injury. It encompasses truth and beauty within such a painful subject, which metaphorically suggests the ability for goodness to come out of anguish". The moment I first heard the song many years ago, I felt strongly connected to it. It is a very emotional song, hence why I added the piano - as they are a key instrument when creating a sad/emotional song/audio. The piano is also the key instrument used in the actual recording of the song. I began by selecting the most interesting verses that I knew would be very experimental. "Crippled anger", "tears that still drip", &

MAPS & NETWORKS - INITIAL IDEAS & RESEARCH

Nick Lyons Honestly, I had no clue what I wanted to create for our Maps & Networks project. Plus, I wasn't fully confident in creating such a large piece that would be displayed in galleries. Don't get me wrong, I have done this before - But that was back when I was doing Graphics or fine art. Something I had a knowledge and understanding of the subject. I was really happy when Dani asked if we could work together. She also wasn't fully confident and we have both worked well in past projects together. Dani came up with our initial concept. "The representation of people's behaviour in society and how they mask that." She said how she definitely wanted photography and a projection, using masks in the photographs or projecting over the masks. After our first tutorial with Rosie, who gave us good feedback and other potential ideas we could look at, we decided to focus on cultural identity in the individuals we were going to look at. This was fairly eas

The Bordon Inclosure Project

PLAN C - MOCUMENTARY

Image
The Bordon Oak Within the skit, as well as being even more... extra, we would still discuss facts of Bordon Inclosure relating to first-hand experiences from locals and from Alice. We would also conduct fake interviews (with peers) whom would tell us of their own experiences. However, after showing our first cut to Anne we realised that the interviews had no relation to Bordon Inclosure and were told to remove them from our mocumentary. Although our skit was well constructed and there were plenty of cut away shots of the surroundings in Bordon Inclosure, which could have easily filled up our mocumentary, it lacked that more serious tone which would juxtapose from our comedic approach. We were also forgetting that the brief was based around community. As we no longer had any interviews to include, Alice and I recorded our own voices, which would overlay scenic shots we had taken in Bordon Incllosure, telling "fake" stories (as "locals") of ghost sightings we ha

PLAN B - GHOSTS

Image
After we had decided to scrap the FOMO idea, we discussed other concepts that we each were drawn towards. Finally, we all agreed on Alice's concept of Ghosts and paranormal activity surrounding Surrey. Our idea was to explore ghost/paranormal communities, whom have experiences that they would like to share with us. We intended on gathering all these different groups/individuals to one location, where e could film their discussion to one another, explaining their separate experiences. As a group, we thought it would be interesting to begin our documentary with a short skit; Starring myself, Alice and Izzy whom are all amateur ghost hunter's exploring the woods around us. There were a few problems with planning permissions; We were unable to secure Farnham Park as our chosen skit location. However, Alice ha told us of her (ghost) experience in Bordon Inclosure, and luckily we were able to obtain permission to shoot our skit there. The first day of shooting was not great. It w
