MAPS & NETWORKS - A NEW IDEA?

Obviously we're not going to completely change our idea😄 But after speaking with Paul Vivian (head of our course) I was leaning strongly to the ideas he suggested. I was never fully keen on the idea of plain white masks, which is why Dani and I decided that we create our own masks in the shape of the country of where our models culture is originated. These would include: Nepal, St. Lucia/Ghana, Hong Kong. We would place these masks over certain parts of the face, between the photographic print and video projection. However, Paul wasn't sold on the idea. He said that we needed to have more in depth meaning. Not just masks in the shape of a country. I understood what he meant and I definitely agreed with him. PRO TOOLS PROJECT - Yr 2

The image above is the passage that I had chosen for my Pro Tools audio project. It's the first few verses from the song 'Cut' by Plumb. The song was released in 2008 and featured in the CW TV show 'The Vampire Diaries'.  The songs meaning is all about self harm (cutting). In an interview, Plumb said that the song was "inspired by a girl involved in self-injury. It encompasses truth and beauty within such a painful subject, which metaphorically suggests the ability for goodness to come out of anguish". The moment I first heard the song many years ago, I felt strongly connected to it. It is a very emotional song, hence why I added the piano - as they are a key instrument when creating a sad/emotional song/audio. The piano is also the key instrument used in the actual recording of the song. I began by selecting the most interesting verses that I knew would be very experimental. Portrait Research

Having never done photography before, I found it rather difficult to think of cool creative ideas for this portrait project. However, thanks to my friend (Carrie) who inspired me with a piece that she had done last year, where she explores portraiture through dance sequences - using a slow shutter speed and strobe lighting to create this effect. I love the effect this technique has, as it cleverly shows movement in a single photo. To me, the models in Carrie's photos look free; I would like to attempt to show freedom through movement in a single photo. To achieve this, I believe that I would need to lower the shutter speed and increase the exposure. I began my research by investigating photographs that had a long exposure. I discovered that most of these photos were quite dismal - the expressions on the models faces were bleak and empty.
