I HAVE A DREAM

From the start of the filming process, I wanted to have a narrative; Showing the journey from one place to another (from one culture to another). We began by shooting in the studio, capturing portrait shots and using lighting to create mood and juxtaposing with the bright and open outdoor shots. Using spotlights in the dark room highlighted the models, capturing their every emotion and facial expressions. I wanted to use these shots as breakaways from the main storyline.
Additional breakaway shots of nature; trees, grass, flowers, a river were all intentional as they all have meaning that link to Martin Luther King's speech. In Siddhartha, the river symbolises the journey towards enlightenment. A tree symbolises stability and growth. All these characteristics were to represent the two, (myself and Manon) as they make their journey towards one another.

Another factor I particularly like, (which was non intentional) were that the two models, myself and Manon were both of different ethnic backgrounds. Manon having white skin and myself having brown enhanced the divide between two races that M.L.K highlighted. I liked the shot of the hand coming up from below to separate both mine and Manon's hands once they had connected. This was a representation of those whom were against M.L. King's speech.

When editing, I changed the saturation from low to high from start to finish. This was to enhance the journey from one place to another, using colour, as well as being another representation of the emotions between myself and Manon. The beginning of the video was very dull, but soon restored colour. 

Overall, I am pleased with what I was able to accomplish with the little footage that I had. There is one shot where I had tried to slow it down, however did not do a great job - as I am no professional, but will learn. I believe that I had selected appropriate segments from M.L.K's speech that blended well with the footage, as well as using a good soundtrack.

Our university was given a great opportunity to exhibit photography, fine art and FDA year 2 work at the Bargehouse on Southbank in London. I was fortunate enough to be able to curate at the Bargehouse. This was an amazing (and painful) experience that helped my development and understanding of the working world in the Arts. It was difficult having only a day to set everything up, especially as we were lacking certain items, equipment and information from students of what needed to be done with their work. Nevertheless, I am glad that I was able to be apart of this. TUESDAY 4TH FEBRUARY - SETTING UP We made our way to London in the early hours of the morning. Once the van had arrived to the Bargehouse, we all immediately started to unload and place the works where they were allocated.
